Cardiff Streets

A selection of shot’s taken on a walk around the city I live in, Cardiff, a few weeks ago. All shot with my Nikon FM and 28mm lens, the first few are taken on the end of a roll of Ilford FP4 125 ISO and the rest on a roll of Fomapan Classic 100 ISO, similar if not totally the same types of film.

First up is this shot of a fence that runs parallel to the road and park next to a bus stop not far from my house, taken at f11 1/125th sec.

Next up this painted road, taken at f8 1/60th sec. I like how the painted arrow points to the centre of the image and while the streetlights on the right and bollards on the left repeat into the distance.

This is a meeting of modern and vintage architecture, the Central Railway Station with it’s stone-work and clock tower harking back to the age of the railway in the previous century and the modern façade of automatic sliding doors and rows of cigarette bins outside. Taken at f8 1/125th sec.

The modern sculpture that stands outside the Central Library; f11 1/60th sec.

Test shot at the start of the roll of Fomapan Classic 100 of the same scene as above. All shots below this are now from that roll of film.

I like the long drawn out shadows stretching across this image; f8 1/125th sec

The interior of the Cardiff Indoor Market, I love the look of the sun shining down through the old windows and roof and the metal barrier stretching around framing the shot. Taken at f2.8 1/125th sec.

A shot of the other side of the Indoor market, these two sign’s opposite a cafe seating area. f2.8 1/30th sec.

The final two are probably my favourite’s of the set. Firstly this street scene, I like the line down the centre of the pavement leading off to the group of people in the distance, the signs on both side’s of the street repeating themselves, one encouraging you to throw your money away and the other showing there is no money to be throwing away in the first place. Just visible in the distance rising above the buildings is the Millennium Stadium. Taken f5.6 1/125th sec

And finally this one of a shop window inside one of the arcade’s, I like how the mannequin’s are lined up in the window behind the big bold lettering of the prices as well as the reflections in the glass of light bulbs and the shops on the opposite side of the road. Taken at f2.8 1/60th sec.
