River Taff

River Taff Canon AE-1 Programme 50mm Ilford XP2 400

An old one from the Canon AE-1 Program I haven’t used for a while, shot with 50mm lens on Ilford XP2 400 ISO film. This is the River Taff in Cardiff, a little upriver from Llandaff Cathedral, Llandaff Rowing Club is just to the left in the shot.

I like the contrast of the colours in the water, from inky black in it’s depths to the left down to foamy grey’s and white’s as it flows through the shallows and over the flood defences that control the river’s flow and direction. The tree branches to the the upper left frame the shot nicely, as does the trees lined along the banks, keeping the focus centrally on the river itself, with the leading line across the centre of the image drawing you to the lone heron sat patiently in the water.
