Another week, another entry into my fifty two week photographic project, this week the theme is “metal”. Wasn’t really sure how to approach this one, I did however actually take a photo rather than scouring back through my archives for one this week, yes go me, so that’s a first for a while. Below is what I came up with.
Olympus OM-D EM-5, 17mm M.Zuiko 1:1.8, ISO 200, f1.8, 1/1250th sec.
A close up view of a flag pole outside the Principality Stadium (until recently the Millennium Stadium) in the centre of Cardiff. I’ve gone for a shallow depth of field here to bring out the pole itself against the background and a very close shot to try and bring out the texture of the metal itself. I think this has worked quite well, not least because you can see the graining of the paint, the scuffing and slight rust showing through and the shine of the central round button against the rest of the surface. The sticker above is for a second hand computer game and electronics store, I don’t know how it got here but it drew me to this flag pole out of all the other’s as it added something to the image I feel.
