Street Photography – Olympus OM-D EM-5; 81

As usual all images are taken with my Olympus OM-D EM-5 and either 17mm M.Zuiko of 25mm Panasonic Leica Summilux lenses.

1.jpg 25mm, IS 400, f4, 1/40th sec. There’s an awful lot of construction work taking place outside my office, this man was stood on top of, well I don’t know what it is to be honest. But there was machinery involved, huge slabs of concrete and metal, the whole sight of a human being dwarfed by what he’s creating is what drew me to take this mage.

I think I liked it as it was just him, no one else, he’s lost in his work, concentrating hard. The fencing diagonally cutting through the image frames him as does the vague lines you can see through the damp road he’s stood on, with a slight reflection beneath him.

I took a lot more than just one image of this scene but this one I felt had the right positioning of the people and shadows, I wanted a vast empty space between the lamppost on the left and the people on the right as well as big bold shadows of them. Out of all the shots I took I preferred this one the most, perhaps also because it was the only one that had a couple and I think that made it more interesting than the single people in the other images.
